The film Nueve Sevillas, which participates in the Festival’s section ‘The New Waves – Non Fiction’, screened November 9. Gonzalo García Pelayo (Madrid, 1947), cult filmmaker and music producer of some of the best Andalusian rock albums, and Pedro G. Romero (Aracena, 1964), versatile investigator with an out of the box approach, join forces behind the camera to celebrate flamenco and its influence in today’s art and mindset. “What I like best about the movie” says Romero, “are the scenes that weren’t scripted. Those that unexpectedly came up while we were shooting and took us completely by surprise.” A nighttime and full of life portrayal of the many Sevilles that can exist, to which García Pelayo gives a provocative and ground-breaking tone: “There has to be some dialectical tension,” he says; although the co directors have assured that the fictionalized documentary is also a love letter to the city of Seville. The documentary includes the voices and performances of contemporary flamenco artists such as Israel Galván, Rocío Márquez, Rocío Molina and Silvia Pérez Cruz.
