Alvaro de Armiñán

He was born into a family of artists (his parents are Jaime de Armiñán and Elena Santonja), and he began his career as auxiliary director for filmmakers like Gutiérrez Aragón, Fernán Gómez, García Berlanga, Borau, Colomo and his own father, among others. Later he worked as second assistant director on productions like Todo sobre mi madre and Carne trémula, by Almodóvar, and De que se ríen las mujeres, by Oristrell. He has also worked on films such as Intacto by Fresnadillo, La gran vida by Cuadri, or Belmonte by Juan S. Bollain. Over the last ten years he has worked as first assistant director for directors like Calparsoro, Chus Gutierrez, Borau or Bajo Ulloa. His first feature in English, Open Graves, premiered in the U.S. He directed three TV movies produced by Canal Sur: La soledad del triunfo, La rueda (Queen Sofia Communication Award 2016) and Segunda oportunidad, all shown at the Seville Festival.
