Jean-Luc Godard

Born in Paris in 1930, he is one of the most prominent figures in world culture. He laid down the bases of the Nouvelle Vague with his film À bout de souffle (1959), directing at that period highlights of the avant garde such as Pierrot le fou. After Made in USA, his cinema became progressively more political, that aspect taking shape in two feature films, La Chinoise and Week End, prelude to his joining the Maoist movement, and the creation of the Dziga Vertov Group. Between the 70s and 80s he went back to fiction although he also undertook monumental works on video such as his Histoire(s) du cinéma, which he finished in 1998. His recent films show with renewed force his political and formal radicalism (there are even 3D experiments). His last work to date is Le livre d'image (2018).
