After thirteen years in Guantánamo suffering hunger, torture and humiliation, Palestinian Muhammad is released. He is relatively free, as there are not many options available to him. Uruguay is the only country willing to open its doors to him. Muhammad tries to build a new life in a country of foreign language and customs. This film follows in his footsteps during the first two years that the country offers him shelter, portraying the complexity of a situation in which goodwill meets reality.

GUILLERMO ROCAMORA
Uruguay, 1981, Estudió Ciencias de la Comunicación en la Universidad de la República, y Guion en la Escuela de Cine y Televisión de Cuba. Fue asistente de dirección en la película Whisky de Juan Pablo Rebella y Pablo Stoll, y segundo asistente en La perrera de Manolo Nieto. En 2004 escribió y dirigió su primer cortometraje Conexiones, y en 2007 codirigió junto a Javier Palleiro Buen viaje (seleccionado en Cannes). Es coguionista y director de Solo, que recibió el Premio a la Mejor Ópera Prima en el Festival de Miami en 2013. Ese mismo año dirigió el documental La esencia de Carolina Herrera de Báez para Discovery Channel. En 2014 dirigió una serie documental sobre Pablo Escobar para Fusión TV (EE.UU.). La libertad es una palabra grande se estrenó en el IDFA en 2018.
