DON'T CRY, PRETTY GIRLS!

Marta Mészaros | Hungary | 1970 | 84 min.| O.V. Hungarian subtitled in Spanish and English
Don't Cry, Pretty Girls!

Marta Mészaros was the first woman to direct a film in Hungary, where she would become a major figure in this country's New Wave. Precisely the emancipation of women and their search for freedom is one of the themes of this film, her only musical, starring a group of young beat-music fans, a space for international youth rebellion against adults, and response to the social dissatisfaction of the time. After spending tedious journeys in the factory, the gang breaks the monotony by attending parties and night concerts. In the center, a love triangle that addresses the profound changes to come.
