The Seville European Film Festival and Spanish Film Day

Seville, 27 September 2021.- In order to celebrate Spanish Film Day on 6 October, an initiative organised by the Ministry of Culture and Sport and the Spanish Film Archive and recently established by the Council of Ministers, the Seville European Film Festival is presenting a double programme comprising screenings at the Teatro Alameda, tickets will soon be on sale.

To celebrate, a fascinating journey between past and present, with literature as the common denominator, will feature two films directed by women in very different periods: El camino (1964) by Ana Mariscal and Karen (2020).

El camino, of which the recently restored 4K copy will be presented, is the particular adaptation of the classic by Miguel Delibes which is considered to be the masterpiece of the first woman who managed to develop a solid career as a filmmaker in the history of Spanish cinema. Today her filmography is undergoing a well-deserved reconsideration, as shown by the programming of this title at the Cannes Film Festival 2021 and the vindication of her figure in the series Women Make Film, by Mark Cousins. This will be followed by the screening of Karen, the second feature film by María Pérez Sanz, premiered in the Official Selection of the last Seville European Film Festival. A biopic of Karen Blixen, known as Isak Dinesen, author of the famous novel Memoirs of Africa, incarnated here by Cristina Rosenvinge in a masterful performance.
