In collaboration with RTVE's Equality Observatory and the Andalusian Association of Women in Audiovisual Media (AAMMA), this event will feature a screening of María Bestard's film, 'No estás loca. La verdad sobre la violencia vicaria' and a subsequent round table discussion entitled ‘Seeing the invisible: cinema versus vicarious violence’, which will debate how cinema can shed light on realities that often remain hidden and invisible. It can put the spotlight on the other victims of gender-based violence: the sons and daughters of victims. Vicarious violence is violence in which the sons and daughters, or other people close to the victim, are used to cause the victim as much harm as possible.
Through the eyes of filmmakers who have brought these stories to the big screen, whether through fiction or documentary, this event will address how cinema can become a space for denunciation and reparation. It will reflect on the importance of giving a voice to invisible victims and on the role of women creators in the audiovisual industry in constructing committed narratives capable of transforming the collective gaze.
