The Seville European Film Festival (SeFF), in collaboration with the Global Publishing Summit (GPS) conference, is launching INK Motion, a new networking space dedicated to literary adaptations for film, at the 22nd edition of SeFF, as part of FRAME Seville.
In this third session of the INK Motion conference, which will take place on Monday, November 10, we will be joined by Colombian director Sergio Dow, who will offer a masterclass exploring in depth the technical and creative challenges that arise when adapting literary works. Real case studies will be analyzed to illustrate both notable successes and lessons learned from less successful projects. Practical tools for preserving the essence and spirit of the original book while adapting it to the specific needs of the audiovisual medium will be addressed. A key aspect will be exploring the dynamics of effective collaboration between original authors and audiovisual teams, including strategies for maintaining productive communication throughout the adaptation process.
Sergio Dow is a director, producer, and screenwriter with a career spanning four decades in Latin America, North America, Africa, and Europe. He has received awards at numerous international festivals and competitions, including the Casa de las Américas Prize (Havana, Cuba), nominations for the Gold Hugo at the Chicago International Film Festival, the INTERCOM International Awards, and the Septimius Awards—where 'The Man from Rome / La Piel del Tambor' was nominated for Best European Film (2023).
With extensive experience in internationally produced and distributed literary adaptations. The most recent, 'The Man from Rome / The Man from Rome / La Piel del Tambor' (Amazon Prime Video, et al., 2022), based on the novel by Arturo Pérez-Reverte. He is currently developing 'What We Become' (2025), an adaptation of 'El Tango de la Guardia Vieja' by the same author, as well as other projects for film and television, including 'El Broker', based on the novel by Francisco Pérez Gandul.
