The New Waves

Maura Delpero | Italy, Argentina | 2019 | 91 min
O.V in Italian and Spanish subtitled in English and Spanish

Buenos Aires. A nuns' home welcomes pregnant-or-with-children teenagers. Among them, the calm Fati and Luciana, a tormented and rebellious girl, who despite motherhood, the sentimental and sexual adventures are the only things that occupy her mind. One fine day a young Italian nun arrives, she soon establishes a relationship with Fati and a more problematic bond with Luciana's daughter: a bond that becomes difficult and out of place given her condition. Sparked with sensitivity, this story is told in a sober and honest tone. A disturbing and humane film about the construction of feminine identity and maternity at inappropriate times and places.
