José Luis Cuerda
Born in Albacete in 1947, José Luis Cuerda is a fundamental name in Spanish cinema. Director, scriptwriter and producer, he worked in TVE between 1969 and 1977, directing reports for news programmes and collaborating on various cultural programmes. In 1982 he released his first film, Pares y nones. He has directed such emblematic titles as Amanece que no es poco (1988), El bosque animado (1987, Goya for Best Film), La lengua de las mariposas (1999) and Los girasoles ciegos (2009), the last two winners of the Goya for Best Adapted Script. He was producer for the award winning titles by Alejandro Amenábar, Tesis, Abre los ojos and Los otros. His latest film, Tiempo después, premiered at the San Sebastian Festival.
