Hlynur Pálmason | Denmark, Iceland | 2017 | 94 min. O.V. Danish and English with English and Spanish subtitles

The Icelander Pálmason came to Locarno and conquered with his first film: no less than four awards (including Best Actor and the Europa Cinemas Label) for this powerful, intense and provocative film. Two brothers work in an isolated mine. Johan, good looking and mild, is a contrast to Emil, a weirdo who is fond of guns and making moonshine with stolen chemicals. Rivalry explodes when one gets the woman the other desires, a classic argument whose edges are sharpened in the wintery, quasi-dystopic world constructed by Pálmason.
