THE NEW WAVES NON FICTION

WHAT I REMEMBER

ANTOINETTE ZWIRCHMAYR

Antoinette Zwirchmayr | Austria | 2017 | 64 min. | O.V. English with Spanish subtitles

Zwirchmayr, a young Viennese filmmaker, works from her own memories in this enigmatic, bewitching film. The oral tale of her experiences with her father, a bank robber who fled to Brazil, and her grandfather, the owner of a brothel in Salzburg, is interwoven with a breathtaking visual counterpart, in a fascinating investigation of the workings of the memory. Flashes, unusual images, mirror games, exoticism and colours in 35mm with which to experience the pleasure of getting lost and then tying together, one by one, the secret bonds that link facts and images, reality and invention.
