THE NEW WAVES NON FICTION

WEST OF THE JORDAN RIVER

AMOS GITAÏ

Amos Gitaï | Israel, France | 2017 | 88 min. | O.V. Hebrew and Arabic with English and Spanish subtitles

Filmed in the heart of the West Bank, the new film by Amos Gitai (Special Jury Prize at SEFF 2015 for Rabin, the Last Day) shows cinema’s ability to achieve an objective never managed by politicians: proposing a deep, hopeful dialogue between Palestinians and Israelis, building a bridge of understanding between Moslems and Jews. The director places his camera in the centre of the conflict, giving a voice to ideological leaders and human rights activists and also to colonists and displaced Palestinians in order to capture one of the most critical, lucid views on the Israeli occupation.
