SAMBA, A NAME IN THE SAND

MARIANO AGUDO

Mariano Agudo | Spain | 2017 | 70 min. | O.V. Spanish, French, Mandinga whit English and Spanish subtitles

On 6th February 2014, 15 people drowned on the Tarajal beach while trying to swim around the seawall separating Morocco from Ceuta. This story begins when Mahmoud learns that one of the people missing is from a town close to his, and he undertakes a journey (in the opposite direction to what we’re used to hearing: from Spain to Senegal) to investigate what happened. A search for clues that will give a name back to one of the victims, who are rendered anonymous by protocols, and during which other urgent questions start to emerge regarding migration. A film by the Seville director Mariano Agudo (Boliviana, Guillena 1937, Habitar la Utopía).
