Paolo Taviani, Vittorio Taviani | Italy | 1977 | 113 min. O.V. Italian with English and Spanish subtitles
A masterpiece by the Tavianis and, by extension of Italian cinema. Palme d’Or and FIPRESCI award at Cannes. A beautiful, cruel film about the confrontation between a father and son. The father and master, who wants his son to follow in his steps and takes him out of school at an early age to tend goats in the solitude of the mountains. A son destined to go far, but to do that he will first have to free himself from the control of that overpowering father. In counterpoint to the latest film by the great brothers (Una questione privatta), where in some way they go back to their origins, when Paisà by Rossellini impelled them to film.
