Andrzej Zulawski

Andrzej Zulawski | Portugal, France | 2015 | 103 min. | O.V. French with English and Spanish subtitles

A mixture of an insane ensemble tragi-comedy and a frenzied metaphysical thriller, this film is a prodigious leap into the void by Zulawski after 15 years of drought and made just before he died: you have to be brave to adapt Witold Gombrowicz. Witold, who has just failed his law exams, and Fuchs, who has just quit his job, go to a guest house near the sea. There, an impossible love springs up between Witold and the married daughter of the bizarre family who run the guest house, while a dead sparrow hanging from a tree makes everyone uneasy.
