THE NEW WAVES

BEFORE SUMMER ENDS

MARYAM GOORMAGHTIGH

Maryam Goormaghtigh | Switzerland, France | 2016 | 80 min. | O.V. French and Farsi with English and Spanish subtitles

People have said that this film is like Stranger Than Paradise, by Jarmusch, but set in the south of France and featuring three Iranians. And they aren’t mistaken: humour, disillusion, partying and existential conversations are the order of the day in this road-buddy movie of campsites, open-air dances and shared secrets accompanied by beer, Arash’s farewell to France after finishing his studies. A perplexed look at life by three young men who don’t really fit in here or there, in a summer that will be a turning point in their lives.
