Pavel Kostomarov, Aleksander Rastorguev and Aleksei Pivovarov | Russia, Estonia | 2014 | 83 min. | V.O. Russian subtitled in Spanish and English
With the urgency of an electrifying day by day situation–as it came into existence as an online series dealing with events as they occur– The Term reflects the extremely tense feelings and the popular furore in the weeks prior to the Russian elections in 2012. The film follows the daily life of the leaders of the opposition: Ilya Yashin, left wing activist and leader of Solidarnost, his girlfriend Ksenia Sobchak, a television celebrity, and the lawyer and star blogger Alexei Navalny, who all have to pay a high price for their stance, just like the makers of the film. The Term reflects the convulsed reality of Russian politics, the sinister methods used by Putin’s government and the reigning discontent, all very hard to resolve.
