Pirjo Honkasalo

Pirjo Honkasalo | Finland, Sweden, Denmark | 2013 | 96 min. | V.O. Finnish subtitled in Spanish and English

Simo, 14, lives in an impersonal block of apartments on the outskirts of Helsinki with his mother and his older brother Ilka. It is summer and the last night Ilka will spend at home before going into prison. In an oppressive, suffocating atmosphere, the two brothers share their last moments together. An evening in which Ilka’s destructive ascendant hovers over Simo in the shape of a series of life lessons that will have a strong impact on him. And, in this aesthetic tour de force, they will mark the evolution of events during a night that will seal the adolescent’s fate forever.
