Narimane Mari

Narimane Mari | France | 2013 | 84 min. | V.O. Arabic and French subtitled in Spanish and English

From a crystalline beach, Bloody Beans moves into the darkness of night behind a pack of children. A kind of delirious journey which is really a reinterpretation and staging of the Algerian war of independence that conjures up reality from fiction. Reconstruction, a false documentary with dreamlike (or nightmarish) airs that questions what is the best way to represent reality in a medium like cinema. Because archive material does not reflect the memory of events imprinted on those who lived them, nor its emotional strength. That is how the sensorial, symbolic journey proposed in the film, its enjoyable rebellion, its rhythmic chaos, make it one of the most faithful documentaries about the uprising against colonial oppression.
