The Sword and the Rose

The Sword and the Rose

João Nicolau

João Nicolau | Portugal, France | 2010 | 137 min. | O.V. Portuguese subtitled in Spanish and English

JoãoNicolau moves, in his capricious and eternally young way, through all the genres he wishes in A Espada e a Rosa: from the musical and the adventure film to the comedy and the crime thriller. A group of outcasts board a ship from the 15th century with the aim of being pirates. They roam the seven seas in search of treasure and, in despair when they don’t find any, decide to look for Rosa, an ex-pirate and spiritual guru who (they trust) will illuminate their way. The bitter yet likable world of Nicolau sailing amidst models and toy sets.
