The Kids from the Port

Alberto Morais

Alberto Morais | Spain | 2013 | 78 min. | O.V. Spanish subtitled in English

After the international success of Las olas, Alberto Morais’ new work has certain things in common with his previous film: constant movement, sparse dialogue and a formal Bressonian minimalism. Miguel, a pre-adolescent from an area on the outskirts of Valencia, lives with a mother who almost totally ignores him and a grandfather who is locked in his room. His only companions are Lola and Guillermo, also ignored by their family. They will accompany him when he makes a trip to a cemetery in order to carry out a task for his grandfather: leave an army jacket on the grave of an old friend. A short journey which, lived by three children, becomes a hazardous undertaking.
