Leos Carax

Leos Carax | France, Switzerlans, Germany, Japan | 1999 | 134 min. | O.V. French subtitled in Spanish and English

A story of contrasts, in which Carax forces his leading character to the limit, making him travel the entire range of registers from a dazzling clarity to the most desolate blackness, in this free adaptation of Pierre: or, The Ambiguities, a novel by Melville. Pierre is a young, blonde successful writer who lives in an ancestral home with his mother (in an ambiguous relationship) and is about to marry the chaste, innocent Lucia. The only thing bothering him is a recurring dream that obsesses him, in which he glimpses a woman with tangled black hair. When he finds her one night, on the roadside, an irresistible attraction forces him to follow her to the final consequences. Through her he will discover a disturbing secret about himself, submerging him in a new reality that is dark and transgressing: his true life.
