Margarida Gil | Portugal | 2012 | 90 min. | O.V. Portuguese subtitled in Spanish and English
Ana has got bogged down in editing her documentary about Novais Teixeira, the famous exiled Portuguese critic, the first journalist to be accredited at Cannes, a friend of Buñuel and Bazin and an essential factor in the career of Manoel de Oliveira. With a handful of recorded testimonies waiting to be slotted into her film like pieces of a jigsaw, she asks for help from her friend Cleia to complete the work. Margarida Gil puts together this biographical sketch of Novais through the adventures of the eccentric, vivacious Ana, her handsome, lazy boyfriend, the fictional characters who slip through, intervene and even interrupt the young woman’s work, and also the ghost of Novais, still wandering the streets of Guimaräes.
