Andrzej Jakimowski

Andrzej Jakimowski | Poland | 2013 | 105 min. | O.V. Portuguese and English subtitled in Spanish and English

After spending months studying the spatial orientation methods used by blind people and finding their methods for moving through the world around them to be “poetic and absolutely cinematic”, Jakimowski decided to write the script of Imagine. A new teacher, Ian, arrives at an ophthalmology clinic in Lisbon. His mission is to teach spatial orientation to a group of blind people, and his rule is not to use a stick. But his methods soon cause controversy among the staff at the clinic who start to think that he is a dangerous charlatan. Meanwhile, there is a hint of a love story between Ian and the girl in the next room who, like him, is determined not to carry the stigma of her blindness (the stick) and whom he will encourage to see, as he does, with the imagination.
