Boy Meets Girl

Boy Meets Girl

Leos Carax

Leos Carax | France | 1984 | 100 min. | O.V. French subtitled in Spanish and English

Carax’s first feature film, filmed in raw (and beautiful) black and white with which he seems to refer to Cocteau or Franju with its peculiar sense of reality and its superimpositions, or The Passion of Joan of Arc by Dreyer or Persona by Bergman with its framing. Alex is a wayward young man whose girlfriend has just left him for his best friend. One day his path crosses unwittingly with that of Mireille, when he accidentally hears from the street, over an entry phone, how a couple is breaking up. A sign that seems to indicate they’re bound to meet. This happens at a party where the boy finally meets the girl. The start of a story that has been told a thousand times, but at the same time is very different from all the others.
