A Woman's Revenge

A Woman's Revenge

Rita Azevedo Gomes

Rita Azevedo Gomes | Portugal | 2012 | 100 min. | O.V. Portuguese subtitled in Spanish and English

Firmly supported by Rita Durão’s performance and by the text, (a free adaptation of the homonymous story included in Les Diaboliques, by Barbey D’Aurevilly, a work from 1874), Azevedo tells the tragic story of the Duchess of Sierra Leone who, to take revenge on her husband for the mortal wound that deprived her of the one she loved most, is now a prostitute on the streets in order to drag his name through the mud. A story that we will learn from Roberto, a world-weary, middle-aged dandy who has returned to the salons of an European city after a long journey, and whose vision of the world, tinged by the boredom of having experienced everything, will change forever after listening to this woman who is thirsting for revenge.
