This Ain't California

This Ain't California

Marten Persiel

Germany – 2012 - 90 min. - German

This ain’t California could be defined as the punk, fast, vital and shameless partner of Material (2009) by Thomas Heise, because the spatio-temporal object to be explored here is again the German Democratic Republic. Three friends who were part of the GDR underground skate scene are the masters of ceremony of this immersion in the past (they own real material in Super-8 format and are mediums to its imaginary recreation).

They have shared their lives since their childhood during the seventies until their adult years, already in the unified Germany, through that feverish, typical of the eighties adolescence which was closed with a radical transformation for everyone. Especially for them, who thought they were immortal youngsters, rebellious skaters, sceptical and maturity-and-commitment allergic.
