Pure Youth

Pure Youth

Ektoras Lygizos

Greece, 2004, 15 min., Greek

Synopsis:

Lygizos’ second short film after Interior with woman peeling apples (details) (2002) is his work most explicitly linked to the Greek crisis. We follow a group of teachers who—each one in their classroom and according to the age of the pupils—explains the different intensity rankings of earthquakes, in a situation that looks like a coming drill. The spotlight is focused on the elementary level teacher, a woman we also see presenting and directing a parents-students school meeting in which the ancestors fallen in the war are commemorated. After the simulation, the teacher goes to the staff room and performs a drastic act with an ending witnessed by her own students.
