Operation Libertad

Operation Libertad

Nicolas Wadimoff

Switzerland/France, 2012, 90 min., French

> 16 years old

The year is 1978 and in the heat of left-wing international terrorism (which by then was taken in Europe by the German Baader-Meinhof and the Italian Brigate Rosse), a Swiss small group with similar ideology and revolutionary principles assault a bank to prove the link between Swiss banks and dictatorships of the world. One member of the group films the action, and those tapes, recovered in 2011, will claim in the fiction a past which is brought back through a series of flashbacks. Wadimoff defines his film like a cross between Man bites dog by Belvaux and Punishment Park, by Watkins.

Nicolas Wadimoff

The Swiss Nicolas Wadimoff has managed to participate in the Cannes Directors' Fortnight with his first fiction film, Operation Libertad. But his previous experience is mainly as a documentary maker with academic qualifications. He specialised in filmmaking at the L'Université du Québec à Montréal, and then developed an important work as a producer and director (though he didn’t forget recycling his studies, adding an acting direction course). He founded Akka Films in 2003, where he has developed documentary and fiction projects.
