Yannis Economides

Greece/Cyprus, 2010, 105 min., Greek

After participating in Cannes with his second feature film, Soul kicking (2006), Yannis Economides achieved success and recognition with Knifer, which received the best film award from the Greeks critics, among other prizes. The main character is a guy with no ambitions, Niko, who lives in the countryside. Following the death of his father, his uncle offers Niko to move in with him to a suburb in Athens and to work looking after pedigree dogs in the hostile neighbourhood. Life in such a poor quarter doesn’t take long to transform Niko, too weak to face the awakening of desire, envy and aggressiveness raised by his new existence.
