Lions Love

Agnès Varda

USA/France – 1969 - 110 min. - English.

It was 1969, and while Jacques Demy was trying to find the dreamt extension to Lola with his Model Shop, Agnès Varda was also trying her luck with her American peculiar adventure. She revealed her experimentation willingness and her desire to cinematically be recognised in her choice of the leading casting, taken by James Rado and Gerome Ragni, the authors of Hair, Viva, Warhol's muse, or Shirley Clarke, an essential filmmaker who acts in this film as the alter ego of Varda herself. This amalgam of bodies, melting pot of film tendencies, lives in a Hollywood hill, deep inside unaware of both the traditional moral and the one praised by new liberations. For the time being, they have just enough with their regained innocence (and a huge bed, and a heated pool).
