Just the wind

Just the wind

Bence Fliegauf

Hungary/Germany/France, 2012, 91 min., Hungarian

Eurimages Competition

Synopsis:

A true story of eight people murdered in a Romanian Community in Hungary, and the unplanned pogrom atmosphere which came from the case inspired Just the Wind. Flieghauf, a filmmaker talented for those atmospheres forecasting storms and a decided will to go through the bodies of his main characters, is open to a physical and sensorial translation of the situation. After the slaughter of the Romanian family, nobody knows anything about the murderers and fear pulls itself together around the gypsy settlement. The closest neighbours are Mari, her two children and the grandfather, whose head of the family is waiting for them in Canada, feel themselves to be in the epicentre of the violence and abandonment increase.

Bence Fliegauf

Born in 1974 in Budapest, Bence Fliegauf went towards the path of cinema from the design of sound and scenes, starting working in the Hungarian TV as a producer and editor. After experimental shorts and documentaries, Fliegauf debuted with the fiction feature film Forest (2002), winner of the Wolfgang Staudte Award at the Berlinale, the festival which has paid most attention, and with the greatest approval, to the Hungarian filmmaker. In 2003, with Dealer, not far from the despicable rhythms of her compatriot Béla Tarr, he would return to Berlin to receive the Berliner Zeitung Prize. After being awarded with the Golden Leopard in Locarno in 2010 for Womb, a suggestive mix of melodrama with science-fiction, Fliegauf shook again the Berlinale with Just the Wind, winning the Grand Jury Prize.
