Gypsy Davy

Gypsy Davy

Rachel Leah Jones

Israel/Spain/USA, 2011, 96 min., English/Spanish

Gypsy Davy is the first film that the documentary maker Rachel Leah Jones started to shoot, but the third to be finished. The reasons for such delay are to be found in the film subject and its nature of double exorcism: behind the title and nickname Gypsy Davy hides the producer’s evasive father, a man from California that stepped into his destiny and profession in Andalusia, where he plays the flamenco guitar under the name of David Serva. Five wives and five children fell by the wayside, Rachel among them. After 30 years of confusion and absence, she plucked up her courage to settle accounts with a person she slightly knew but the only one she could call ‘father’. That was the driving force for a physical and mental journey which has just as much grief as duality.
