Call Girl

Call Girl

Mikael Marcimain

Sweden/Ireland/Norway/Finland, 2012, 140 min., Swedish/English

Synopsis:

With the licence characteristic of fiction films, Call Girl is based on an actual scandal that broke out in Sweden in 1977 (the Bordelhärvan case), when some information was leaked regarding the Minister of Justice being a frequent customer of a prostitution ring. Mikael Marcimain and his artistic team put a strong emphasis in the detailed reconstruction of an apparently modern, neutral society in the midst of sexual revolution, yet still hindered at the end by hypocrisy and the immoral complicity between power and crime. Only the narrative form of a thriller can explain the intertwining of low and high classes in a case pivoting on a socially-troubled child abuse by a political caste considered as untouchable.

Mikael Marcimain

Mikael Marcimain was born in Stockholm in 1970. His audiovisual career has been mainly oriented to the small screen, especially by directing advertisements and TV series which has brought him recognition and awards. The Laser Man (2005) and How soon is now (2007), the photography of both by the Swiss Hoyte van Hoyteman, are Marcimain’s best valued series. He has made his debut in fiction feature film with Call Girl in 2012, working again with the aforementioned photography director and obtaining the FIPRESCI International Critics Award at the last Toronto International Film Festival.
