Beyond the Walls

Beyond the Walls

David Lambert

France/Belgium/Canada, 2012, 98 min., French.

Synopsis:

Paulo meets Ilir in a bar in Belgium while they enjoy some drinks. The former is an apparently fragile pianist, while the latter, of Albanian descent, seems to be more extrovert and self-confident, and works as a waiter while his career as a bass player becomes consolidated. Paulo, although having a stable relationship with a girl, never restricted his sexuality, and it seems that this time his flirting with Ilir conceals something stronger than in other occasions. David Lambert said he was inspired by the structure and the emotional palette of Los paraguas de Cherburgo for his Hors les murs, a film debut that won the Grand Rail d’Or at the Cannes Critics’ Week.

David Lambert

Born in Belgium in 1974, David Lambert graduated in Classical Philology at the University of Liège. Lambert wrote his first script when he was nearly thirty years old, and after a large experience in the world of theatre, where he made his first steps as director. He worked later two years for the francophone channel RTB, specifically in a children’s programme named Ici Bla-Bla, and started to collaborate in the scripts by French and Belgian producers. He shot his first short film in 2009, Vivre encore un peu, which attracted the attention in Locarno and smoothed the way for his debut with Hors les murs.
