Synopsis:

Mounir is a young Moroccan who owes almost everything to Dr. André Pinget, the man who took him out of Morocco and raised him at Belgium. He is really in love with Murielle, and she does love him too. When they decide to marry, both regard as normal that André would live with them. They soon have children and the family burden rises, which gradually implies a larger dependence on the doctor, old friend of Mounir’s family and whose ancestry over Mounir is increasingly undermining Murielle’s mental health. With this film, Lafosse changes the substance of his film debut, Folie privée, using a different model of filmmaking, with other bodies and textures, proving the validity of the tragic-classic legacy to keep thinking of us.

Joachim Lafosse

Joachim Lafosse was born in Uccle, Belgium, in 1975, and graduated at the Institut des Arts de Diffusion (IDA) in Louvain-La-Neuve, with his short film Tribu (2001), which already became noticeable obtaining several awards in different festivals. Script writer and also playwright, Lafosse career stabilised in filmmaking since his debut with Folie privée (2004), a tough, condensed (less than an hour) feature film about the consequences of a sentimental rupture that he presented at Locarno. He returned to the Swiss festival in 2006 with Ça rend heureux, taking that same year his Nué propriété to Venice. He was invited to Cannes for the first time in 2008. There, his Elève libre confirmed his maturity and flexibility when dealing with his main obsession, the family or human group as a taut spider web which breaks at the weakest link.
