A Hijacking

A Hijacking

Tobias Lindholm

Denmark, 2012, 99 min., Danish.

Synopsis:

A Hijacking is the first film by the script writer Tobias Lindholm as a solo director. The film is a thriller that minimises spectacular images and favours suspense. Lindholm repeats the claustrophobic atmosphere of his previous film–R (2010), a jail drama co-directed with Michael Noer– but transfers the action to the Rozen, a cargo ship hijacked in the Indian Ocean by Somali pirates. The ship crew consists of seven men. One of them is Mikel, the cook, who is selected in the script as the objective of audiences’ affective projection. He also leads, from the ship, the tripartite negotiation process among the employees, the pirates and the representatives of the Danish company which owns the ship.

Tobias Lindholm

Lindholm, born in Denmark in 1977, graduated in script writing at the National Film School of Denmark. He began his career as script writer in the world of short films, and took off when he assumed some chapters of the Danish series Sommer (2008) and especially, Borgen (2010-2011), which success benefited him enormously. In 2010 he participated in the script writing, along with Thomas Vinterberg himself, of Submarino, a situation that has repeated for the recent The Hunt, with which they competed at Cannes obtaining two good prizes. After his first film, R (2010), co-written with Michael Noer, Lindholm made his first film as solo director with A Hijacking, presented at the Venice Orizzonti Section.
