The Jury of the OFFICIAL SECTION of Seville Film Festival 2017, composed by, VALÉRIE DELPIERRE, AGATHE BONITZER, THOMAS ARSLAN, FERNANDO FRANCE y PAOLO MORETTI, have decided to award the following prizes:

 

GOLDEN GIRALDILLO

 

Film: THE NOTHING FACTORY (Portugal, 2017)

Directd by: Pedro Pinho

Documentary, fiction and musical brilliantly coexist in this daring and accessible film, which carries the viewer on a both visionary and dramatically realistic journey. For focusing on the complex contemporary economical situation with an anti-rhetoric, poetic and deeply original approach.

 

GRAND JURY AWARD

Film: WESTERN (Alemania, 2017)

Directed by: Valeska Grisebach

From an apparently marginal and “local” story, the director creates a precise and tense metaphorical social portrait, which powerfully transcends realism acquiring a major socio-political magnitude.

 

SPECIAL MENTION OF THE JURY

Directed by: Lucrecia Martel

Trans-national, trans-territorial, poetically and politically exploring a fantasized yet historical universe which never ceases to evoke the present time.

The Seville University Camp_US Jury of the NEW WAVES section of the Seville Film Festival 2017, composed by PABLO ESCUDERO CHAMORRO, ELENA MARTIN SERRA, ALMUDENA MARIA MATA NUÑEZ, DIEGO MANUEL RODRIGUEZ VERANO and PAULA JIMENEZ LUPIAÑEZ  have decided to award the following prizes:

 

NEW WAVES SECTION BEST FILM AWARD

Film: NIÑATO (España, 2017)

Directed by: Adrián Orr

For its courage in blurring the lines between fact and fiction, and also for its skill in the anthropological portrait of the family nucleus in the current social reality.

 

SPECIAL AWARD NEW WAVES

Premio ex aequo: 

Due to the high level of the section in this edition, it  has been agreed that for the creation of their own atmospheres and their current themes, such as gender identity and school bullying, aimed at provoking a reaction in the public, the award will be presented jointly.

The Jury of the NEW WAVES NON FICTION section of the Seville Film Festival 2017, composed by JULIETTE DURET, FELIPE LAGE and PETAR MITRIC have decided to award the following prize:

 

NEW WAVES NON FICTION AWARD

Film: DISTANT CONSTELLATION (Turkey, EEUU, 2017)

Directed by: Shevaun Mizrahi

For use of cinema as art and as a medium of telling universal story. The director imposes an eye for framing the colourful characters and finally delivers a humble, human and deep Ode to life in the crosswind of past, present and future.

The FIPRESCI Jury (International Federation of Film Critics) of Seville Film Festival 2017, composed by GYÖRGY BÁRON, TALIP ERTÜRK and TONI JUNYENT, have decided to award the following prize:

 

BEST FILM AWARD OF THE RESISTANCES OFFICIAL COMPETITION

Film: TENDERNESS AND THE THIRD PERSON

Directed by: Pablo Llorca

For the rich landscape it brings to life through the story of a family and the neighborhood they live in and because it brilliantly depicts the real people in a daily life struggle with the aspect of comedy.

Special award aimed to one of the Spanish directors who participate in the following sections: Official, New Waves or New Waves/Non_Fiction. This award is worth the creation of a DCP (Digital Cinema Package) Master for his/her next feature film project, being valued in 6.000€ maximum.

For working from a gender perspective to  show the social inequality between men and women and its standardisation.

 

OFFICIAL SECTION ASECAN BEST FILM AWARD 

Film: TIERRA FIRME

Directed by: Carlos Marqués-Marcet

For reflecting deeply on motherhoods and family models from a non-heteronormative perspective, with brilliantly acted, complex, non-sterotypical characters and through its own symbolic world.

The Jury of the CICAE of the Seville Film Festival 2017, composed by, CLOE TRALCI, FRANCESC VILALLONGA , and RAMIRO LEDO have decided to award the best film debut of the Seville Film Festival 2017:

 

CICAE AWARD BEST FIRST FEATURE FILM

Film: GOD’S OWN COUNTRY

For its dramatic force, its ability to integrate the toughness of the surroundings into the story, and for its sensitivity in the treatment of the characters played by two magnificent actors.

Film: MR GAY SYRIA

Directed by: Ayse Toprak

For the courage shown by her director in narrating, with the formula of non-fiction, the experiences of a group of male homosexuals escaping from Syria at war, all shown with the hope of a life in freedom.
