The nominations for the European Film Academy Awards have been released today during a gala at the Abades Triana Restaurant in Seville.
It is a sample of the work by one of the most outstanding filmmakers on the current scene, where the spectator is led to reflect through the avantgarde visual effects which lead him to “play in order to produce new meanings” in the image. In Arnold’s work mention must also be made of his experiments and re-elaborations with found footage.
The Seville European Film Festival has programmed in its Official Section the new films by Larry Clark, Ruben Östlund, Andrey Zvyagintsev and Alice Rohrwacher and also the last film by Alain Resnais. El camino más largo para volver a casa, representing Spain, along with the new films by the Safdie brothers, Eugène Green and Saverio Constanzo
The recent winner of the Gold Shell at San Sebastian for Best Film ('Magical Girl') and Best Director is leading the group of five professionals who will decide the Gold Giraldillo for the Official section of SEFF'14. The documentary maker Carla Subirana, present at last year’s Seville Festival with 'Volar', is on the jury for the section The New Waves Non Fiction
The film by Manuel Gómez Pereira opens, out of competition, the Official Section in which Sergi Pérez’s first feature film ‘El camino más largo para volver a casa’ is competing. Two national productions are participating in the New Waves section, another three in New Waves Non Fiction
Films in original version aimed at schoolchildren who have not yet learned to read will have an actress present in the cinema performing the dialogues Animation will have an important presence, with particular mention for ‘Meñique’, the only Spanish production –in co-production with Cuba- competing in this section
The XI edition of the SEFF is programming a season with the best of recent Austrian films, a monograph on the work of Martin Arnold (with a parallel exhibition in the CAAC) and an extra section devoted to experimental cinema. Austrian participation will be completed with ‘Amour Fou’, by Jessica Hausner, which is competing in the Official Section; ‘We come as friends’, by Hubert Sauper, which is in New Waves-Non Fiction; and ‘Macondo’, by Sudabeh Mortezai, which will be seen in the EFA Selection
