'MADRE' BY RODRIGO SOROGOYEN WILL INAUGURATE THE 16TH EDITION OF THE SEVILLA FESTIVAL

AFTER ITS WORLD PREMIERE AT THE VENICE FILM FESTIVAL AND ITS SCREENING IN SEVILLA, WANDA VISIÓN WILL PREMIERE IT IN CINEMAS ON 15 NOVEMBER.

Selected to compete in the Official Section of the Seville Film Festival, Sorogoyen's return with MADRE - after the thunderous success of EL REINO earning him the Goya for Best Director and Best Original Screenplay - is set up as a psychological thriller based on the short film of the same name that earned it an Oscar nomination in 2019. Starring Marta Nieto, followed by Àlex Brendemühl and Jules Porier, and written with her usual co-writer, Isabel Peña, MADRE faces a tale of absences, displacements and hopes before the possibility of recovering what is most loved.

Rodrigo Sorogoyen (Madrid, 1981), debuted in 2008 with 8 CITAS, co-directed with Peris Romano. Already on his own he made STOCKHOLM (2013), which earned him the Best Director Award at the Malaga Film Festival. Then came QUE DIOS NOS PERDONE, which was awarded with a Goya for best actor for Roberto Álamo as well as the Best Screenplay Award at the San Sebastián Film Festival, before he was consecrated as one of the essential figures of Spanish cinema with EL REINO.
